There is just so much that Germany does so well. Spiegel reports that in 2011, a minuscule 85 cartirdges were fired by German police officers in pursuit of criminals.
Of those 85, 36 were aimed shots but 49 of them were just warning shots. This amounted to only six deaths and only 15 injuries.
Germany seems to take great pride in the peace-keeping practices of their armed forces. (translated)
This was presented on Tuesday in Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s Minister Lawrence Caffier (CDU) as chairman of the Conference of Interior Ministers (IMK).“Our police officers are not” thugs in uniform. “You are only obliged to the law and fulfill the task that we as a society to them, based on the rule of law,” said Caffier.
The numbers from 2010 are nearly identical to those reported last year, so 2011 was not simply a fluke, it is the German culture.
