In an attempt to stay ahead of the apocalypse curve, HSBC has been testing out its cash machines to ensure that, should the time come, they would be prepared to distribute drachma. With each passing day it is seeming increasingly likely that the only possible eventual result will be Greece departing from the Euro, so banks will need to be prepared to take on additional currencies.
The cash machine tests at branches in Athens are understood to have been extensive to ensure that the machines are able to handle banknotes of a different size and texture.
