The ISM manufacturing index came in at 49.8 for July, marking the second month of contraction in a row following June’s far below expected figure of 49.7. Analysts expected a slightly higher report of 50.2 in July.

The last two months are the only two months of contraction in the ISM manufacturing index since July of 2009.
