Eco Ressources, a group of Canadian environmental consultants, released a paper last year (via Kiera Butler and @jmooallem) titled “Evidence of the Socio-Economic Importance of Polar Bears for Canada” in which they attempt to place a nominal value on the Coca-Cola mascots.
Canada’s polar bears represent two-thirds of the world’s population, but this report seems to be the first of its kind. There is more information than you might ever want to know about polar bears in the publication, but this flowchart gives a nice overview. Total value of Polar bears to Canada: ~$6.329 billion.
