Behold the unemployment rates since 2001 of select Eurozone countries. The last available month is July 2012 (June 2012 for Greece*). Data accessed from Eurostat.

The lesson is clear. You can choose austerity, and be like (S)pain and Greece, or you can take the path of Iceland.
* Possibly there is no longer anyone employed to collect the statistics.
