The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the producer price index for finished goods rose 1.1% in September, a smaller increase than the 1.7% seen in August.
The core PPI, which excludes food and energy, was a flat 0.0% in September though, down from a 0.2% rise in August, indicating food and energy are responsible for all of the gains. The price of finished foods rose 0.2% in September, compared to 0.9% in August. The price of finished energy rose 4.7% in September, compared to 6.4% in August.
