The Census Bureau reports that housing starts rose to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 872k in September, a whopping 15% higher than August’s revised reading of 758k. This is also 34.8% above the September 2011 rate of 647k.

Single-family housing starts in September were at a rate of 603k, 11.0% above August’s figure of 543k.

This is the highest total housing starts have been since July of 2008.
