The U.S. Department of the Treasury reports that the budget deficit in May was $138.7 billion. This follows a a $112.9 billion surplus in April and a compares with a $124.6 billion deficit in May 2012.
May’s deficit was composed of receipts totaling $197.2 billion and outlays totaling $335.9 billion.
The 12 month rolling total of government receipts is $2.6857 trillion, while total outlays are $3.5566 trillion. This leaves the rolling 12 month deficit at $870.9 billion.
This is the first month in 2013 that the government budget deficit has been worse than last year.
